Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is in the race for Chile striker Eduardo Vargas – and is ready to join a transfer window auction.
Dalglish sent a top spy to watch the Universidad de Chile star in action last weekend and Vargas’s camp claim they are now in talks about a January move.
Vargas is rated in the £15million class and the Kop’s interest comes as a shock after splashing out on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in that department this year.
However, Dalglish is always planning ahead and will not want to lose the 22-year-old to a rival.
Arsenal are linked with Vargas while Inter Milan are officially in negotiations for him to move next month.
Talent
Dalglish’s trusted assistants have reported back that Vargas, an exciting attacking talent who could blend well with Uruguayan Suarez, is worth an investment if the bidding starts.
His club are not wealthy and Chilean sources are convinced they will sell as soon as possible because Vargas has emerged so strongly this season.
Vargas would be interested in England or Italy as he cashes in on his fame.
He has also become a regular for Chile’s national side despite stiff competition.
Dalglish is poised to join the bidding if an offer is accepted from another bidder – and the Anfield chief will get financial backing if he decides to make a plunge for Vargas in a big way.
